Rob Schott
Rob Schott is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian literature. His background in real estate includes several years of experience in real estate sales, investment, and insurance valuation. After obtaining his appraisal license, he worked with Lee Bookhout at L.T. Bookhout, Inc. in Rhinebeck for almost 5 years prior to Lee's retirement. He and Michael DeWan are now partners in DeWan & Schott Appraisal Associates, LLC, and Lee Bookhout is still a mentor and consultant. Rob is now a NYS Certified General Real Estate Appraiser and is an Associate Member of the Appraisal Institute working toward his MAI designation.
Rob has tackled all types of assignments, from impact studies of sand and gravel facilitates to funeral homes to horse farms, but he has developed a passion for and a specialty in land appraisals including eminent domain work, conservation easement appraisals, UASFLA "Yellow Book" appraisals, and municipal acquisitions. "I love to walk the land and feel the rich history of our region unfold in the tales told by the woods and fields, the stone walls and trails. Appraising large land parcels has given me a chance to become intimate with some very beautiful and interesting country; hearing the stories of land owners about their property is so exciting because the past, present, and future are all visible and palpable through the land. It's like looking into a kaleidoscope of time and seeing it all simultaneously play out around you in the physical, natural world--history meets reality meets possibility: I love it."
Rob is a former resident of the Jackson Corners area outside of Red Hook, and his wife teaches at Bard College, but they are now full-time residents of the Village of Catskill. His interests include classic literature, especially Dickens and the great Russian writers of the 19th century, wine, cooking, and kayaking, as well as dabbling in wood and stone working. He has for several years volunteered his time as a writing tutor and has taught a "Fundamentals of Writing" class to students in the Bard Prison Initiative college program at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch, NY. He is also the proud father of a son born in June of 2007.
